FFA V: ZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzz………..

SleepySquirrelface

Jeez… it’s slow around here.

I’ve been pretty busy outside of the site, and work has required those valuable blog hours for actual work stuff. What’s been going on with you guys? Did anyone catch any of those shows this past weekend? Any awesome parties? I stopped to help a broken down car on Friday night, and ended up spending the rest of the evening deep in the projects fixing more cars and meeting some awesome new friends. It was one of the most fun Friday nights evAr.

Other than that….. it’s pretty much been boozin’ as usual.

Oh! One more thing that deserves a shout out. I don’t usually recommend that you guys go to Rapture… but I’m totally gonna do just that right now. Go to Rapture Wednesday night! IllVille Crew is playing, and that is a crazy fun show. I’ll be there! Is anyone else planning to go?!?

Well, there was a pretty kewl party @ Casa de Donk on Saturday night. I got to meet b’yo face-to-face for the first time, we played some beer pong, and drank a bunch of homebrews.

Your other guests (who I was also meeting for the first time) were very cool. We should take them up on their offer to take us on the Preddy Creek Trail.

  2. #2 by Donk on May 11, 2010 - 11:51 am

Yes! Saturday Night was a lot of fun. Then, with much credit due to waking up to mimosas… we did it again Sunday night.
Lessons learned this weekend: Just because your house is still staged for a party and can get ‘only so much more trashed’…. don’t do it. It can get *much* more trashed.

    Ode to the Red Truck:

    Hi there.
That’s a pretty sweet parking spot you’ve got there.
    Yeah.. you know it too,
because you’ve been in that parking space for at least an hour over the 2 Hour limit.

    Yeah.. it’s pretty sweet.
    Problem is…
you’re kinda totally blocking the alley way and trapping about 6 cars inside.
    Yeah..
    fuck you.

“I don’t usually recommend that you guys go to Rapture… but I’m totally gonna do just that right now.”

… and for the love of gawd, please don’t convince yourself that one meal there wouldn’t be that bad because your too lazy to walk someplace else after your friends convince you to have a beer there with them. I ate there once, last week, and found myself hugging my toilet at 3 AM, violently.

Me, Floozy, and Caroline had a party in Fork Union. Y’all weren’t invited because we don’t like to share our champagne. Also don’t drive drunk on Rt. 15, you will get a speeding ticket. But luckily not a DUI.

  10. #10 by brewer998 on May 11, 2010 - 1:53 pm

@7 – the bummer about the counties surrounding Albemarle is that the cops there actually patrol rural highways. That’s all they have is rural back roads. Once you get past Key West on Rt. 20 in Albemarle County, it’s clear sailing.

  27. #27 by belmont, yo on May 14, 2010 - 10:00 am

    OK, I have some questions.

    1) I have been cracking out on the gym lately, by which I mean ~2 hrs a day, 5 days a week. Now my body hurts *all* the time. Is this feeling of pain what is known as being “healthy”?

    2) Driving to work this morning, the car ahead of me was causing me to rage… typical cell phone maneuvering (inconsistent and oft slow speed with the weaving and all). On this bucket was a bumper sticker that read: “I am not losing hair, Im getting head”. Seriously? Who would think this sticker is funny or a good idea to put on a car? Should this person be euthanized for general asshattery?

    3) What does the collective alcoholic diaspora think about this:

    http://www.spikeyourjuice.com/

    Anyone ever tried?

  28. #28 by brewer998 on May 14, 2010 - 10:07 am

    1) This is the transitional pain which will give birth to the healthy you

    2) He has never gotten head… leave the poor bastard alone

  46. #47 by secondhandsally on May 21, 2010 - 10:19 pm

@46 just got home. it was good, but not mind blowing. had a good time. i think they’ll do really well; was surprised because it wasn’t a lot of UVA kids, an older crowd. I used to live on Apple Tree and would have loved to be able to walk to this bar. (Durty Nellies is actually a pretty awesome bar though if you’re in the right mood though)

  48. #49 by Donk on May 24, 2010 - 9:54 am

    @46,47

I dunno. We went on Saturday, and were pretty underwhelmed. It seems like the place doesn’t know what it wants to be. Take the dark oak feel/theme from Hamilton’s, the TV’s and fans from the Nook, the food quality of… Shebeen? It seems overpriced for something so firmly planted in Studentland… and way overpriced for the food quality. Combined with a terrible parking situation.. I don’t feel like this place is going to make it. It’s a shame because it is such a nice space, but it seems really out of place. It’s definitely the nicest restaurant in the area.

  49. #50 by Donk on May 24, 2010 - 9:58 am

    Beach highlights from day 1:
Very predictable and within the first half hour.. my dog barfed all over the house.
A friend that was leaving the next day stopped through and dropped off a ton of amazing food.
And the dogs have lowered the crustacean levels on the beach by at least half.
My shuffleboard skill levels have plummeted.

  50. #51 by secondhandsally on May 24, 2010 - 10:31 am

@49 I think your underestimating the desperate need for more bars to walk to in that area. but the beer was insanely overpriced.

  51. #52 by belmont, yo on May 24, 2010 - 2:00 pm

And the dogs have lowered the crustacean levels on the beach by at least half.

    ORLY?

  52. #53 by Donk on May 24, 2010 - 4:27 pm

    @51
    Oh, without question.
That’s why I want to like it so much. But… just like you said, the crowd was an older bunch. And they even seemed the more well-off set, so I’m envisioning BMW’s and Mercedes in the parking lot. Oh snap.. no parking lot.

So, my point is, the market they are gearing toward does not seem like the market that’s going to deal with the inconvenience of going there.

Let’s be honest, it’s a snooty California Pizza Kitchen.

    /drunkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk.

  53. #54 by KCB on May 24, 2010 - 5:22 pm

@49 – While admitting I’ve never been to the place in Lynchburg, your critique of the new place sounds a lot like what the interwebs are saying the Lynchburg place. They set you up for an experience that you don’t get. Friggin’ teases …

  54. #55 by secondhandsally on May 24, 2010 - 6:31 pm

@53, yeah OK I think you’re right. It definitely doesn’t have anything that sets it apart other than the fact that it’s surrounded by dive bars (which as I said before, I have a special place in my heart for dive bars). I think my memories of living on Apple Tree and wanted more bars in the area probably had me giving them too much credit.

So I was wondering, why, when purchasing something with a debit card the little window comes up “Approved!” with an exclamation mark… like it is surprised at that fact, or you have won a prize or something? I fucking deeply resent that shit for some reason.

Also: where is a good place to get a haircut? Difficulty: I presently have extreme haircut PTSD. Great story, horrid experience.

OK, so assuming one had to have some sort of surgery again, and was not allowed to drive because of medication and whatnot. Is it possible to have a cab prearranged to pick one up. Which cab company would you call? I can have the docs call me a cab to get home, but to get there, all early in the morning like?
