Thursday through Sunday, check it out!
Thursday- 4/22
Ben Harper & The Relentless 7 – The Charlottesville Pavilion – 7PM - ~$40
-Call me a hippie all you want. I’m probably going to this. I’ve seen some pretty awesome Ben Harper shows in the past, and this thing is going to be packed to the gills with hot girls.
Friday- 4/23
Six Day Bender – Fridays After Five/The Pavilion – 5PM – Free!
-Six Day Bender always puts on a fun show. I’ve learned better than to go to Fridays after Five, because that’s just too early for me to start drinking on a Friday night. If I start at 5, I’ll be blacked out by 11 and out drinking until 4AM.
Sons of Bill – Jefferson Theater – 8PM – $12/advance – $15/day of show
-Another fun show. If you haven’t been to the Jefferson yet, this is a pretty great excuse.
Sarah White and the Pearls with Red Rattles and Pompadour – The Southern – 8PM – $8
Saturday- 4/24
Foxfield!
Be it the summation of all that is fun or all that is evil, Foxfield is always sure to draw a huge crowd of drunken, sunburnt, revelers. I know that at least half of ya’ll are going, so please feel free to talk trash about how the other half lives in the comments below. If you’ve never been, I’d recommend checking it out at least once. I know that some of ya’ll may harbor a little anti-UVA sentiment; but there’s just something wrong with you if you can’t have a great time in the sun with all of your friends.
If you don’t have tickets yet, the Charlottesville Young Professionals group has some pretty sweet deals. Click their name to find out more.
Trees On Fire – Jefferson Theater – 8PM – $15
The X-Porn Stars with the John Lee Experience – The Southern – 8PM – $8
-Very fun show. Recommended.
Sunday- 4/25
Bassnectar with DJ Vadim & DJ XSV – Jefferson Theater – 8PM – $20
-I haven’t heard of any of these people, but B Yo gives it very high praise. This is enough to pretty much sell me on it.

Wooo Foxfieldssssssssss

It’s funny that C-ville has a “weekend preview” in Feedback (a.k.a., the music column) that tends to mention very little about the music events of the weekend. This isn’t even a music column, it’s your first week, and you’ve already got them beat!
Go TXTNLY!

Wooooo!!!!
The CYP thing looks like it’s already over with. I meant to take it out before I posted, but it slipped through the cracks. Either way, that was a pretty solid deal.
This is going to be a pretty awesome weekend. I’m kind of hoping that it does rain for Foxfield. If it can stay in the high 60’s, a little rain and massive crowds of drunk people make for a hilariously fun time.

Oh shit! Vadim is opening/playing with Bassnectar? This is a must not miss.
Vadim is old school – in a class with the likes of Shadow, Stienski and Krush.
For those that are not all about this form of music – this is not gay disco at the cafe, or A to B to A mixing (NTTAWWT)… this is full form creation whole cloth. It is really amazing to experience.
I mean, c’mon. Born in russia, raised in england, lives in haiti and has dj’d for everyone from Public Enemy to Stevie Wonder?

/will shut up now.

Reporting back from the Ben Harper show:
weak.
There’s probably a reason that I stopped listening to Ben Harper like 7 years ago. I recognized about 3 songs. I’ve officially become the guy that wants you to play the greatest hits album.
The crowd was bleh. The show was really undersold, so there were maybe 500 people there. A relatively small number of people in such a huge space makes for a weird concert. There were definitely some whirling dervishes in the crowd, but for the most part, people just stood around. Not really fun.
The retail on those tickets was $43. If they had cut them in half, they might’ve filled the place, and the venue would’ve made a killing on beer sales. Instead, I didn’t have to wait in line for drinks once. That’s not a sign of a great show.
#14 by brewer998 on April 23, 2010 - 11:28 am
“Ben Harper” would have been the first sign of “not a great show”
#15 by Donk on April 23, 2010 - 11:44 am
I don’t know. Placed in a venue appropriate for the attendance, I think it would’ve been pretty good. ‘Intimate shows’ should not have 8,000 square feet of empty space.
#16 by Loki on April 23, 2010 - 2:28 pm
Why didn’t they do it at the Jefferson? Seems like it would have been fantastic there.
#17 by Donk on April 23, 2010 - 2:29 pm
Great question… MusicToday/LiveNation managed the event, so I dunno. I guess it’s just unfortunate that they can’t really change the event location after they realized ticket sales were so dismal.
#18 by belmont, yo on April 23, 2010 - 2:59 pm
Why didn’t they do it in my elderly neighbor’s yard? Seems like it would be more confusing there.
#19 by Street on April 25, 2010 - 3:59 pm
My body is a funhouse.
#20 by shenanigans on April 26, 2010 - 11:45 am
Wine festival this weekend @ Montpelier. Woot.
#21 by Donk on April 26, 2010 - 11:49 am
k, if you want to send me a link w/ some info I’ll make sure that it makes it into the next preview.
Thanks!

Reporting back: Bassnectar melted my face.
Who knew there were sooo many fans electronic music out there? Its was sold out show with folks outside begging for tickets. Who are all these people?
#23 by rhymes with orange on April 26, 2010 - 5:13 pm
At Foxfield, I saw a horse on its way to the glue factory.
#24 by Donk on April 26, 2010 - 7:20 pm
@23
That sucks.
One took a fall right in front of our plot last year. It was a definite buzzkill.
#25 by belmont, yo on April 27, 2010 - 8:50 am
Sad for the horse, but a field day for the fox i imagine.
/wary of the be-jodpered equine set.
#26 by rhymes with orange on April 27, 2010 - 11:16 am
TOTAL buzzkill.
#27 by shenanigans on April 27, 2010 - 11:21 am
It was very sad. Luckily nothing like that this year.
#28 by phoenix on April 27, 2010 - 12:41 pm
but a horse did fall, and have to get put down. right in front of the owners. 1st race. sad indeed.
#29 by Loki on April 27, 2010 - 1:22 pm
I heard something about a guy getting drunk and trying to tackle a horse?
#30 by shenanigans on April 27, 2010 - 1:50 pm
@28: This year? i missed that. Thank gawd.
#31 by Floozy on April 27, 2010 - 4:34 pm
I put down a horse once. I told it that it had unfashionable hooves and walked all funny.
#32 by shenanigans on April 28, 2010 - 10:13 am
@17: You are confusing ticket broker with promoter. MT just does the ticketing. Nothing else. Starr Hill Presents or whover the promoter was was responsible for the venue.
#33 by Donk on April 28, 2010 - 2:04 pm
We’re all pretty busy today, so it’s a little slow around here…. but…..
New Weekend Preview tomorrow!
Wooo!!
You guys don’t even know how awesome this weekend is going to be. If any of you have weekend jobs; Quit them immediately.
