The Death Knell

Ok folks…

Here’s a place for all of your cVillain vitriol. With the new owner forgetting basics like ‘how Gateway IP’s work’ and other basic blog etiquette, I’m just over it.

However, I’m going to pull a Thor here. I don’t really want the general distaste for the new owner to become a focus point for txtnly. I’m not asking you to stop your bitching, because I still get a laugh out of it. I just don’t want it overrunning the rest of the blog.

  1. #1 by Floozy on March 3, 2010 - 11:33 am

Cvillain is like a bar that used to be really loud, kind of dangerous but verry exciting. Ripped leather chairs, spilled beer and graffiti in the toilets. Then new management came in and remodeled it with Ikea sofas and pastels…. now it’s empty and the barman just stands there polishing glasses and eating peanuts.
    Fucking shame.

  2. #2 by shenanigans on March 3, 2010 - 11:51 am

Actually, I think the new mgmt remodeled it with stuff he found at Spencer’s

  3. #3 by rhymes with orange on March 3, 2010 - 12:20 pm

it’s like the new New Deli. the old New Deli was much better. new New Deli sucks.

  4. #4 by shenanigans on March 3, 2010 - 12:45 pm

In Soviet Russia, deli sucks you anew

  5. #5 by Loki on March 3, 2010 - 12:55 pm

It’s bad. I don’t even know what to post over there anymore, and I don’t want him to have my IP other than what he already does. I will delete any comments that don’t relate to how Cvillain sucks. How’s that?

  6. #6 by belmont yo on March 3, 2010 - 2:17 pm

shenanigans just got the banhammer and now sits in the cvillain corner with RWO. This is getting kinda funny.

    /we should LOIC that beast.

Editors Note: Fixed the name drop.

  7. #7 by Street on March 3, 2010 - 2:36 pm

Yeah I saw that, commented on it, and I cannot help but wonder if I’m gonna be censored too. Fuck that place.

  8. #8 by belmont yo on March 3, 2010 - 2:50 pm

    Oh shit, whoops. My bad.

  9. #9 by Loki on March 3, 2010 - 2:55 pm

Street that was the best! When comments start getting deleted because the admin doesn’t like them – you know there are problems.

  10. #10 by rhymes with orange on March 3, 2010 - 2:59 pm

yeah did see he just responded to you Street and acknowledged that my comments and shen’s were deleted?

  11. #11 by Loki on March 3, 2010 - 3:05 pm

    I saw that.

  12. #12 by Loki on March 3, 2010 - 3:09 pm

ps… if he really wanted to delete them he could have. But they weren’t deleted. they were marked as SPAM. .. and now they ARE deleted! very strange. this site is getting weirder and weirder. Comments are getting full on removed.

  13. #13 by Loki on March 3, 2010 - 3:11 pm

Shenanigans doesn’t have an approved comment since 2/18, RWO doesn’t have one since 2/22.

  14. #14 by Street on March 3, 2010 - 3:13 pm

Well, he can play with himself there, ’cause no one else will want to take part of Peewee’s Petulant Playhouse.

  15. #15 by Loki on March 3, 2010 - 3:14 pm

Nevermind, RWO and shenanigans comments are still marked as spam:

Echo just popped in from out of nowhere with snappage of the ‘oh’ variety. Brutal, but we’ll see how long it lasts.

    /old school dog pile.

  17. #17 by rhymes with orange on March 3, 2010 - 3:25 pm

i thought i was keeping it funny AND relevant.

  18. #18 by Loki on March 3, 2010 - 3:27 pm

WE made that site. Not him. WE brought it back. Not him. Ask Kyle what made Cvillain a success – the articles or the comments? See how long the site lasts when no one comments on shit.

  19. #19 by echo on March 3, 2010 - 3:30 pm

I’ve been checking here occasionally and saw this thread. I decided I’d give him my 2 cents and see how long they last.

  20. #20 by Donk on March 3, 2010 - 3:31 pm

Ok. I’m trying to stay out of this, because as a blog writer myself… I don’t want things to sink to this level. I, personally, stopped posting on cVillain because I no longer wanted my name associated with that site. Of course, I get accused of stirring things up over there even when it’s not me. Whatever. I’m apathetic toward such self-aggrandizing egocentric nonsense.

However…. I think that the comment above (screenshot taken to preserve it from the inevitable edit) is completely laughable. Humility doesn’t even know this guy. I’m thrilled that I don’t have content on that site anymore. If any of you hold content in the archives, I would suggest asking him to remove it from his site. It’s currently being claimed as his own.

“Keep it funny, keep it relevant, and it stays.”
People must be very eager to please over there. I guess that’s why they get a gazillion comments a day.

  21. #21 by Street on March 3, 2010 - 3:33 pm

I guess it’s been dead for a while. I just wasn’t ready to admit it. I’m gonna trade in my Nostalgia for a better model.

    /no clunkers here

  22. #22 by belmont yo on March 3, 2010 - 3:43 pm

I think *this* site has potential as its a bit more flexible to become whatever it is destined to be. All we need is a lingerie ad and little more participation.

  23. #23 by Loki on March 3, 2010 - 3:45 pm

I can make the lingerie ad happen b’yo. Make me an image and I’ll put it on the sidebar.

  24. #24 by Street on March 3, 2010 - 3:52 pm

b yo – would you be willing to make a favicon for txtnly? I’m a lazy bastard, and I don’t want to keep sifting through the generic ones on mah toolbar.

  25. #25 by belmont yo on March 3, 2010 - 3:53 pm

That would be funny – a parody. Then all we would need is a dead bird mascot and a gif flashing how many brazillions of hits we get each day.

Perhaps a “Q Lounge” ad? “Q-Lounge: Worth more points in scrabble.”

  26. #26 by Loki on March 3, 2010 - 3:56 pm

“Q-Lounge: Our toilets have mirrored lids.”

  27. #27 by Donk on March 3, 2010 - 3:58 pm

Ethan is going to need new pants the next time he checks cVillain. Whoever sees him chime in, please take a screen shot. It won’t last long.

  28. #28 by Loki on March 3, 2010 - 4:00 pm

“From the day I fired up cVillain 3.0, until today I have deleted only one comment, and I spent days reading and re-reading it before refusing to let it be posted. I now have a different view, and I’m doing what I should have done long ago.”

That may be true. He just relinquished the other comments to the SPAM folder.

  29. #29 by belmont yo on March 3, 2010 - 4:15 pm

    Too funny.

Shoot me an email, gmail doesn’t remember yours for some reason and when its slow at work, I’ll just pump em out from time to time… and get to work on that ani gif. All will have the same aspect ratio.

  35. #35 by Loki on March 3, 2010 - 4:32 pm

Done. And this isn’t really a ‘blog’ its more like an interactive ‘zine.

  45. #45 by shenanigans on March 4, 2010 - 10:10 am

How do I get around that?

  46. #46 by Donk on March 4, 2010 - 10:12 am

    Ok.
    It’s soapbox time.

I thought about this last night, and realize that it’s a bit of a unique situation. Ian has blurred the lines between blog life and real life by using his own name and image to run his blog. That being said, I don’t want personal attacks made on this site. It’s fine if we want to criticize cVillain as an entity, but we need to be careful about remarks about Ian. I understand that it’s difficult sometimes because he seems to take things very personally and he brings his personal life into the fray… but that’s by his own volition. It doesn’t make it ok for us to sit in our little clubhouse and trash talk his character.
In the same way that I’m not going to allow anyone to post harmful content about any of ya’ll, or even a third party; we can’t treat him any differently. I’m not going to censor any content (unless it’s ridiculously bad), but I’m not going to encourage the mob mentality that we tend to fall into.
I acknowledge that I’ve been as bad as anyone about criticizing what’s happening over there, but I’m trying to rein it in.
Plenty of ya’ll have not crossed this line in the least, and can totally ignore this ramble of mine. I just want to curb things a bit before they get out of hand… especially considering the amount of drama that seems to be generated by cVillain lately.

And really… I’m a helpless drunk that lives in a glass house with nary an unbroken pane. I really don’t have room to trash talk anyone.

    /Capt. Buzz Killington…… Signing off.

  47. #47 by Loki on March 4, 2010 - 10:13 am

    tl/dr

  48. #48 by shenanigans on March 4, 2010 - 10:18 am

Nobody’s made any personal attacks on here, Donk. What are you getting on your soapbox for?

  49. #49 by Loki on March 4, 2010 - 10:19 am

    Donk’s a shithead. There – a personal attack!

  50. #50 by Donk on March 4, 2010 - 10:20 am

Not so much in this thread, but there has been some questionable content on the site as a whole. And mostly, I’m just trying to redirect the way things are going here. I don’t want txtnly to become the cVillain haters clubhouse.

  51. #51 by shenanigans on March 4, 2010 - 10:22 am

Well, we have to have somwhere to bemoan the loss of what was once a fun site, one that introduced me to some of the best people in my life.

  52. #52 by Donk on March 4, 2010 - 10:34 am

Yep. You’re completely right. I’m not trying to say that we can’t bitch about cVillain here. We just have to keep it from crossing the personal threshold.
I agree that cVillain is one of the things that really helped me get established in this town, and introduced me to a large cross section of my friends… that’s why it’s easy to get all worked up about the direction the site has taken.

Also, one reason that it has become a focal point is because we haven’t been putting down enough content to generate its own discussion. We’re working on fixing that.

  53. #53 by shenanigans on March 4, 2010 - 11:15 am

I got to be a film extra yesterday. I’d be happy to try to write up an anecdote about that.

  54. #54 by belmont yo on March 4, 2010 - 11:33 am

Ive done extra work before. Its a trippy long day, but at least they feed you.

    “Marks!”

  55. #55 by shenanigans on March 4, 2010 - 11:53 am

    They didn’t exactly feed us.

  56. #56 by Street on March 4, 2010 - 12:15 pm

I was in a low budget horror film called Way Back in the Woods, but it was never released. I played one of the killer cult members. In one scene, I stabbed a scream queen, pulled out her guts, shoved them in her mouth and then pushed her into a blood-filled grave. The experience changed the way I look at movies.

  57. #57 by belmont yo on March 4, 2010 - 12:30 pm

One of my best friends in SF was a talent recruiter, and he was forever trying to hook me and my kids up with gigs. If you get lucky, the money is huge (i met this bike messenger who by chance ended up being the voice of the green chevron car and made $84,000 by the end of that campaign).

My son was in a bryers ice cream commercial when he was like one and a half and made $1400 (the cool thing about that though was that it was shot at Industrial Light & Magic, which is just about the coolest studio in the world – think actual ET, actual darth vader… etc).

I have been to so many auditions, but never got anything but extra work. However, one audition led to what has to be my most long, funniest, humiliating story ever by far. I have prolly only told five people in my life. I shudder everytime I think about it.

  58. #58 by shenanigans on March 4, 2010 - 12:44 pm

I was never really hip enough to really be part of cVillain. I was late to the party, I write boring crap, and I didn’t fit in.

Yet it wasn’t until the new cVillain that I felt bad enough not to post/comment. Just thought I’d get that off my chest. You can now return to your regularly scheduled hipness. Thanks.

Holy Crap! Ian is THAT Shroom dude, the shroom house on our street that was busted. I don’t know how I didn’t make the connection until now. There was lots of strange goings-on at the place, especially compared to the rest of our Leave -it -to beaver street.

@104 – There was always people hanging out in the front yard, night and day. There was one dude who would stand shirtless in the back of a pick-up truck and stare down people as they drove up the street. In retrospect, of course it was a drug house but it was so out of place in our 9-5, semi-detached townhouse street that no one put 2 and 2 together.

Also, because the people were fairly clean cut white 20-somethings. If they had looked, you know, “different”, we would have been onto them and braying to the po-lice every chance we got.
