A friend of mine has contacted me about her new blog and a pretty interesting event to go with it.
You’ll find the blog at http://secretlyall.wordpress.com/
We’re also keeping it linked in our blogroll on the right sidebar.
To steal the mission statement from her blog:
Secretly Y’all is committed to bringing people together through the art of storytelling. We believe that while our differences make life flavorful, similarity of experience and the ability to share these connect all people. We realize storytelling exists beyond the traditional oral culture within a variety of media including, but not limited to, poetry, music, and performance and are open to other effective means of communication. Our primary goal is to support everyone who has a story to tell, from the most seasoned of performers to a first time sharer.
The thing that I’m most excited about is their first public storytelling event. The details can all be found in the poster above. These are supposed to be true stories, so I’m sure there will certainly be plenty of self-humiliation involved. The theme for this kickoff week is ‘Touched by a Crazy’. This crazy can be yourself, a friend, an ex, family, or a random acquaintance.
There’s plenty more info over on her site, so please check it before the event if you plan to attend. I’ll be there!

I’m not really sure, but Lauren may be able to offer some more info. I’ve been to parties at her house with the same premise and they’re pretty fun. I would recommend copious amounts of alcohol, especially if you plan to contribute.

This went amazingly well. I celebrated with an entire fifth of Jim Beam, and today I feel like I might be dying.
B yo killed it last night. He also helped out with my story and made it about 10 times more awesome.

I heard Browning Porter was there too. I love listening to his stories. Sorry I missed it!

Yep. Browning’s story was pretty great, too. I plan on writing an event review once they make the audio and any pictures available.
There was at least one descension into lunacy on the stage. I’m hoping that it translates well to the audio only format.
Note to future participants: Exercise caution when mocking your audience.
