Downtown history

The Albemarle Historical Society has a great online photography exhibit of downtown and West Main Street from 1976 [photography by John Shepherd]. See if you can pick through them and recognize what some of those businesses are now. On my way into work this morning, I found this building.

Here’s what it looks like now:

I wish you could still get a good old fashioned grill cooked lunch there too :(

I was in there a couple of years ago and these 2 white tshirted yobos just walked in and emptied the tip jar (very full BTW) and laffed at the 2 baristas behind the counter and sauntered out with it. Saw it with my own eyes. Middle of the day and every one just sat there and watched them walk out. I asked the staff if they wanted me to call the cops and they said not to bother and they went on making coffee.WTF?

I’ll watch it when I have an hour to kill. I liked seeing the mall in the 90s though. Cool to see Woolworth’s bustling.
